Hello!
Norihiko Yamanuki is a chief engineer, producer, and
As a composer, he has a studio equipped with a British SSL console.
It serves as a workroom for artists
I've been working in studios for a while now .
It is still relevant in the digital age.
Beginning.
I have no academic musical training whatsoever.
I studied law and economics at Waseda University, but dropped out before my third year.
He sneaked into a music production company's studio as an apprentice and became a recording engineer.
I aspired to become one.
As an apprentice recording engineer, I was miraculously accepted into KAMIYA STUDIO Co., Ltd.
I was hired, but
The previous engineer was already gone, and there was no senior to teach me.
From soldering PC boards to creating never-before-seen devices
I was immersed in the grueling daily grind of reading and memorizing English manuals.
I was playing the drums in the jazz club at university.
I bought a cassette tape multi-tape recorder,
I also enjoyed making music in my room as I pleased.
One day, about a month after I was hired, I wanted to play the song in the studio.
I was secretly listening to it
The studio owner, Mr. Kamiya, suddenly came in.
"Who made this?" ⇒ "Oh, it was me."
You can become a composer
In this way, not only as a recording engineer but also as a composer
I was given a job in the spring when I was 21 years old.

New encounter.
My encounter with Synthsizer
Studio owner Shigenori Kamiya uses the ARP2500-Synthsizer
He introduced him to Japan and became a technical advisor for the musical instrument manufacturer Roland.
I was working there.
He is also a composer and has won the ACC Award for TV commercial music multiple times.
The work includes the use of these synthesizers
The tone was well used.
The powerful, pressure-filled sound, like an earthquake, was simply amazing.
This synth appears in the final scene of the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

Auto-play
Sequencer MC4
The ARP2500 had its own sequencer - a circuit that programmed performance - but Roland developed the sequencer to allow the synthesizer to play numerically.
This is the MC4, famously used by YMO and Kraftwerk.
This was developed two years before I started working at the studio.
It's a nostalgic machine that I'm very familiar with.

The dawn of DAWs - the beginning of the MIDI standard
MPU-401
In Japan, it was the NEC-PC8801, and in the United States, it was the Macintosh.
It went on sale, and automatic playing entered the era of computer control.
A digital communication standard called MIDI was also developed for control purposes.
The photo shows the MPU-401, sold by Roland in 1984.
It is a digital conversion device.
This circuit was designed by my master, Kamiya.
I picked up a soldering iron and made prototypes many times.
Now it's a nostalgic memory.
My buddy
I would like to introduce some true friends who I am grateful for the connections that have given me so much insight.
I will do it.
